Address Verification System (AVS)

Address Verification Settings are used by merchants to validate the authenticity of a transaction. The better the ‘match’, the higher the probability that it is the actual cardholder processing the transaction. Passing address information (street address and zip code) also helps merchants get better processing rates upstream from the gateway.

International Credit Cards & AVS

AVS is universally supported for both international and domestic credit card purchases. When using an international credit card, AVS checks the street address and the postal or zip code against what the issuing bank has on file.

What Information Do We Collect for AVS?

Customers are required to provide the following information to purchase tickets.

  • Full name

  • Billing address (address number and street only)

  • Credit card number

  • Expiration month & year

  • CVV/CV2/CSC code

  • Billing country

  • Billing city

  • Billing state (optional for international credit cards)

SmartStubs does NOT store sensitive credit card information after successful sale. The information is transmitted directly to NMI during the transaction process. If a customer chooses to create an account and save their credit card information, that information is saved by NMI in a component known as the NMI Customer Vault.

Card ID Verification (CVV)

CVV stands for "Card Verification Value" and is a three or four-digit number printed on the front/back of your credit or debit card, serving as an extra layer of security, especially for online or phone purchases.

CVV numbers are also known as CSC numbers ("Card Security Code"), as well as CVV2 numbers, which are the same as CVV numbers, except that they have been generated by a 2nd generation process that makes them harder to "guess".

How does CVV Verification Work?

These settings have the same concept as the AVS rejection rules. NMI processes the transaction, and the bank verifies the CVV code (3-digit code on the back of the card or 4 digit-code on the front for AMEX cards). They will send NMI a response if supported.

International Credit Cards & CVV

CVV is universal on all credit cards throughout the world. All international and domestic credit cards support CVV/CSC.
